After it is newly plated, part is unwired, excess material is removed, and the whole part is inspected again before the part is moved to the polishing area. Polishing is another area where trained craftsmen are required. Polishing is an art. If you use too much pressure or the wrong polishing compound you can ruin the part and the finish. After polishing and cleanup the parts receive another quality inspection.
